SBIRT and Older Adults

Description:  Age is a factor to be considered when using SBIRT in the workplace.  Excessive alcohol use among older adults represent major but often neglected public health problems, even among those who regularly receive health care from a physician. This webinar discusses how to to assess and treat older workers whose use of alcohol or prescription pain medications may create health and work-related problems. 


Learning Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, you will be able to: 

  • identify the dangers of excessive alcohol use among older adults and the resulting public health problems; and
  • modify the SBIRT protocol to identify unhealthy drinking among older adults. 

Josh Dichkewich is the SBIRT Program Manager for the Hanley Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Here, he implements, facilitates and manages the screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment program.  Prior to joining the Hanley Center, Dichkewich received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida.  He is certified in SBIRT and has received supplemental training in Motivational Interviewing and SBIRT. 

Who Should Attend Employee assistance professionals, addiction professionals, social workers, mental health counselors, professional counselors, psychologists and other helping professionals that are interested in learning about SBIRT.
